Nurses who aspire to work in other countries must undergo training and assessment to ensure they possess the necessary skills and competencies to practice in a new healthcare environment. This process also ensures that they meet the standards set by respective nursing regulatory bodies.
In Australia, internationally qualified nurses (IQNs) seeking registration as registered nurses (RNs) must undergo assessment and evaluation through two key regulatory bodies: the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). These organizations determine whether IQNs meet the requirements to practice nursing in Australia.
The Outcome Based Assessment is a permanent and consistent approach of the Australian Health Practitioner Regaulation Agency (AHPRA) and Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) in granting registration for international nurses. The process will ensure quality and safety in the care of the Australian consumers.
The Internationally Qualified Nurses (IQN) Stream B candidates are required to complete two examinations - NCLEX and OSCE. Please contact the college or NMBA for more information about streams of candidates.
College of NETA provides high quality preparation program for both parts of the exam. The review materials and access to the program are available for students by the time they enrol to the preapration.
The program has been carefully created by Karissa, the CEO and Founder of the college, with great consideration and consultation of educators and nurses within the industry to ensure validity and effectivity of the program.
There has been a number of successful candidates who have completed their OBA, NCLEX and OSCE preparation and are now registered nurses in Australia.

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) regulates nursing and midwifery practice in Australia to ensure the public's safety. They constantly develop and modify standards and guidelines for nurses' and midwives' safe and professional practice. They work with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to assess registration applications and ensure their suitability to work as healthcare professionals in Australia.
In March 2020, the NMBA shifted to a permanent approach to assessing internationally qualified nurses and midwives (IQNS) who wish to work in Australia. They implemented the Outcomes-Based Assessment (OBA) for IQNMS, which requires them to undergo self-checks. IQNMs who are classified as candidates with a relevant qualification but not substantially equivalent to an Australian-approved (Steam B) are required to undergo a two-stage assessment process:
Please contact the college and we can provide you a list in your country's currency. The expenses listed are to those who wish to do the process themselves. College of NETA offers a free service in guiding you in the application process.
The average time for a candidate to complete OBA process is 9-12 months.
Even if you have already passed US-NCLEX, the first step of the registration will always be checking your eligibility by completing the self-check with AHPRA. After that, you will need to:
Attend Orientation Part 1
Submit your portfolio with required documents
Request a score transfer from the US Board to AHPRA
Undergo assessment by AHPRA
If advised, proceed to the OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination)
Upon passing the OSCE, apply for final registration
Once all steps are completed successfully, you will be officially registered as a nurse in Australia.
AHPRA will determine whether NCLEX is required. You need to do the self-check to know.
To inititate a score transfer, visit the NMBA website by clicking this link.
It is always advised that candidates must commence the self-check process to know eligibility and pathway advised by the NMBA.
See video for a step by step instruction on how to do self check.
You can start the process as soon as possible. Follow the link to start the enrolment https://www.nursingeta.com/course-detail/outcome-based-assessment-nclex-and-osce
If you are an internationally qualified nurse or midwife (IQNM) who wishes to register in Australia, you will need to complete the Self-check before applying for registration. Self-check is free of charge. This will help you and the College of NETA to know where to start the support. The result of the self check will advise you of what steps to take as suggested by the NMBA. https://youtu.be/uR1KYq_v5Ko
Only internationally qualified nurses or midwives who would like to seek registration in Australia should complete the self-check. The self-check cannot be completed by a third party or agent on your behalf.
There are no age limitations to apply for registration, Candidates can proceed with doing self check form AHPRA's website. There may be a limit to apply for certain visas to work as a registered nurse, you can find more information at the Department of Home Affairs
Bridging programs are expected to continue into 2021 for IQNMs who hold a referral to bridging. A referral to bridging does not guarantee a place in a program.

The Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) is a clinical exam to assess the candidate’s knowledge, skills and competence at the graduate-level nurse or midwife from an Australian NMBA-approved program of study.
Stream B candidates – Candidates (who have successfully completed the Orientation Part 1, Portfolio and MCQ exam stages) must pass the OSCE before they are eligible to apply for registration in Australia.
Once you pass your MCQ/NCLEX , your IQNM dashboard will advise you that you are eligible to sit the OSCE. Then you will be advised to pay the OSCE fee. After recieving your fee, the IQNM exams team will contact you in relation to upcoming dates.
The NMBA and Ahpra currently schedule OSCE exams every month. They continue to monitor the number of OSCE candidates wishing to sit the OSCEs and will make days available, as able, to meet the demand.
Once you have completed all the requirements to be eligible for the OSCE, the IQNM Exam team will contact you when the next exam session is available. To get the latest information on exam dates, click here
AHPRA will offer candidates the examination dates as they become available. Candidates are only eligible to attend the RN OSCE Exam on the dates offered at the time of the booking. AHPRA does not coordinate exams for individual candidates’ calendars in mind. If you are unavailable for the dates you have been provided, the IQNM exam team will be in contact with you as soon as new dates become available.
Yes, the OSCE exam is only offered in Australia, specifically in Adelaide, South Australia and Melbourne, Victoria.
Yes, at this stage OSCE is delivered in Adelaide, South Australia and Melbourne, Victoria.
The OSCE is an in-person clinical assessment. The OSCE is completed in a clinical simulation environment to ensure that IQNMs can meet the standard of practice expected in Australia. This is a matter of public safety and ensures a rigorous evidence-based assessment of clinical skills.
If you are outside Australia and you need to travel into Australia to undertake OSCE, you need to look up and discuss visa options with Department of Immigration by visiting the website . The NMBA will provide an eligibility letter and College of NETA provides a letter of enrolment to the students. Both of these documents can be used as evidence of the purpose of travel to Australia.
You need to make a request to reschedule at least 3 full business days (72 hours) before your scheduled exam date and time. Also consider state and national holidays when deciding to reschedule as the offices may be closed at those times. Wait for the IQNM exams team to confirm before considering your exam rescheduled.
Yes, students are responsible for arranging their own travel and accommodation for the exam. However, NETA offers a full package for students who wish to have these arrangements made for them.
The OSCE examination fee can be refunded in some circumstances. Refer to the AHPRA website for more details. If you can no longer attend the examination date you have selected and need to re-schedule, please refer to the Changing your Scheduled examination section in the RN OSCE Candidate Handbook.
It might appear to be difficult and stressful, besed on previous test takers, but with the right practise and preparation, you should be able to succeed. Note that there has been a lot of students from College of NETA who made it up to registration and are now working as a nurse, so it is doable with the right preparation and attitude. Please check the tier that will cater to your needs and budget so you will receive the right support you require.
According to NMBA OSCE FAQs section: Candidates will be allocated to either an AM or PM session. Each session will go for approximately 3-3.5hrs. It is recommended to ensure you do not book any travel or accommodation until you know which date and session you are allocated to.

I read resources provided by NETA and practice questions. I would suggest practicing much more questions and focus on rationale and quality rather than quantities. The helping hand to succeed which I can proudly say is NETA because I found their content very much fruitful and the best part is, they keep on upgrading their content in relation to NCSBN Board. They keep you constantly motivated even you get failure. They never leave their hand instead they push you much more towards achieving your success which did happen to me as well. And I did not find such institute that keeps on follow up with you, regarding your studies progresses, achievement and does provide feedback. Thus, heartful thanks to NETA team and especial thanks to Karissa and Karen for being such a wonderful co-ordinator and tutor.

When I was taking the exam, I felt like all my teachers were there sitting beside me, telling me how to deal with the questions like how we would during our final coaching. I was literally going through every word. Learn by heart and reflect on the day, use the NETA framework..I would hear these reminders constantly play in my head, and always when I need them. It is truly worth it..all the hours shared with our educators have truly paid off. As always, theoretical knowledge is most important. In my case around 15 % of the questions were purely theoretical, and everything else I was able to confidently comprehend with analytics based on the NETA framework. To all you future test-takers, remember these..Be calm. Imagine this as just another mock test. Relax. You got this.

Before Coming to Australia I had a goal in my mind that I would first register myself as a Registered Nurse and fulfill my lifelong dream but had so many inhibitions in my mind. But now I feel that, I was lucky enough to accomplish my dream through NETA, As they helped me getting through the ardent path of preparation which made me pass the NCLEX in my first attempt. I would also like to thank all my educators of NETA who were always patient enough to listen to my thought processes and suggest imporvements.

The journey wasn’t easy but it was all worth it. First and foremost I would like to dedicate this success of becoming Australian RN to GOD, my way maker and promise keeper. For in Him, nothing was impossible in his perfect time. He blessed me with super supportive family and a loving husband who believes in me despite of all the hopelessness and frustration that I felt throughout my OBA process due to multiple lockdowns in Victoria. God has also given me NETA OBA as my review center for my OSCE preparation and my encourager despite of being doubtful of my skills, they keep pushing me to be the best that I can be and keep reminding that I have already know this skills for the very long time in my nursing career, I just have to execute it in Australian way and be a safe advocate to my patients. Thank you to Ma’am Kaye, Miss Anamika and Ma’am Johanna B., my NETA Melbourne mentors whom I share this victory. Maraming Salamat po , you will always be a part of my RN journey. To God be the Glory

College of NETA has supported me to achieve my OSCE. Self-confidence, 100% determination is the biggest factor in succeeding the exam. The preparation course increased my confidence as I know that I have gained enough knowledge to perform the skills. I do believe that it is achievable by many, the exam can be challenging, but with proper support from educators and other OSCE classmates, complete resources, dedication and commitment, nothing is impossible. I am thankful to all my family, friends and NETA for supporting me in this journey

I believe that the preparation from NETA, along with your 100% commitment to study and full confidence when you take the exam are the biggest reasons why I succeeded in OSCE.
I am blessed to have supportive and positive people around me. This is the beginning of fulfilling my lifelong dream to work as a registered nurse in Australia.

Taking my NCLEX preparation with NETA really helped me to achieve the goal of passing the exam as fast as possible.
All the resources, the mock tests and readiness tests were absolutely useful to practice the different topics.
The lessons were interesting, very easy to understand and focused on the main point of the argument. They gave me the chance to refresh my knowledge as a nurse in Italy and to be confident enough to pass the exam.
I went through all the steps suggested by the study plan and it was the perfect program which gave me the opportunity to learn how to manage the questions properly.
The team was very helpful and they were always ready to answer my questions. In particular, Khloe was very kind and dedicated and helped me a lot in order to pass the NCLEX.
One thing that really changed my way of studying was the intensive coaching. Five days of intensive lessons with all the other students were exactly what I needed to acquire confidence and work on my weakness.
Thanks again to all the team and looking forward to achieve the next step with you!

I am finally relieved because I passed my NCLEX. As an international nurse who has zero knowledge about the OBA pathway, I was really stressed about where to start. As I got to know about NETA, my hopes got lightened and here I am with a big smile on my face and a relieved heart saying that I finally passed my NCLEX. I want to thank the teaching staff of NETA for helping me throughout my NCLEX journey. Without your guidance I wouldn't have reached this far.
Finally, my hard work paid off and I can breathe. I want to say to all of my fellow friends who are preparing for NCLEX that,'' HAVE FAITH IN YOURSELF. IF I CAN PASS NCLEX, THEN YOU CAN DEFINITELY PASS''.
Thank you again college of NETA for believing in me.

First of all I want to thank my family who always support me and especially to the Lord God for making all this happen. At first I doubt that I will pass the OSCE in one take since it’s already been years when I work as a bedside nurse. But through the help and unending assistance of NETA especially Karissa. I passed. It’s an honor to be one of their students. Even on my journey to have a work sponsorship they are still there. My experience with NETA has been really wonderful as I prepared for my RN OSCE. From the get go, the orientation and the portal were such an ease to navigate and 100% organised.
NETA was able to create a supportive learning environment for us, my classmates are truly helpful and friendly, our instructor, Jimmy, is very welcoming and knowledgeable, as she took the OSCE herself, and Karissa was very encouraging. I can really say NETA cares for the students.
With the help and encouragement of my instructors and classmates, I took the plunge, flew to Melbourne, had the opportunity to practice in the skills lab there, and finally took my OSCE on 10 May 2025 - and passed!
It is such a whirlwind journey, but I owe my success to NETA. Without the encouragement, I would have just listened to my self-doubt and rescheduled my test date. It is true that a person's greatest competition and critic is oneself. Having a supportive environment where it is safe to make mistakes to be able to learn and grow makes all the difference.
Thank you so much NETA specially to Karissa, Khloe, and Jimmy, for being instrumental in getting my Australian RN license!

"No words can describe the joy I felt when I woke up today and got the email from AHPRA saying that I passed my OSCE. I’d like to personally thank Karissa, Khloe, Anu, Stashy, Sachi and the rest of the NETA Team for all their support during online classes, face to face workshops and via email. I’d also like to thank the colleagues that practiced with me during online class and in person. I don’t regret enrolling for the OSCE All Inclusive program. I found that the face-to-face sessions prior to the exam were extremely beneficial.
To those who have yet to take the exam or weren’t able to pass, I recommend practicing 10 stations a day for 1-2 months prior to your exam. Consistency and practice are key; it will help you achieve your goals in Nursing. Get your family members and friends involved in your exam practice if you have to. I’ve found that bribing people with homemade sweets and baked goods worked the best."

I'm beyond grateful for my experience with NETA, where I not only gained confidence in my nursing skills but also formed meaningful connections with my classmates in both online and f2f classes and instructors, especially Ms. Karissa, Khloe, Anu and Noreene - their guidance and support made all the difference in my OSCE prep. I highly recommend NETA to anyone looking for a supportive community and effective resources to conquer the OSCE. Again, thank you so much NETA family!

NETA has been a great support during my preparation… Being an off-shore student was a challenge during my preparation stage for OSCE and their student portal was a big help to me because of the comprehensive study materials that is available online. Additionally, the instructors made sure that each class is always interactive.
It was a wise decision for me that I enrolled with them. I am more than satisfied with the training and assistance I received from NETA. Also, I would like to commend my instructor Grace for being so hands on during the face-to-face class and a friend during those stressful days.
All the best to you and may you help more aspiring nurses in the future.

I wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank the entire NETA team for your invaluable support throughout my journey. I’m happy to share that I have successfully passed both the NCLEX-RN and OSCE exams through the guidance of NETA.
The course played a vital role in helping me achieve this milestone. The educators were incredibly knowledgeable, and the face-to-face practical sessions were especially effective in building my confidence and skills and a valuable platform to correct my mistakes.
I would like to thank Karissa, Khloe and Marife specially at this time.☺️🙂
Thank you once again for the guidance, encouragement, and excellent training, especially the Intensive coaching classes, the online portal & portal videos, zoom class links, and finally the face-to-face sessions. I truly appreciate all the effort that went into making this learning experience so effective and rewarding.

The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is a critical milestone for most of the off-shore nurses like me who aspire to practice in AU. It requires thorough preparation and strategic planning to succeed. With the assistance of NETA, my OSCE review became a more organized, positive, and enriching experience.
First, NETA training and simulated exams helped me see how I improved and made me feel more prepared. Then, the instructors provide an organized and well-structured system that guides students in every aspect of the exam. For instance, Ms. Khloe's "desensitization" thing where she shows photos of every OSCE station each time she starts her online class. It helps me create a mini mental note of what to expect on the exam, and it alleviates my anxiety since I can foresee what may and may not happen on the test date. Lastly, with their modules grounded in actual practice, I gained a deeper understanding of the Australian standard of practice and practical applications of knowledge and skills in the context of healthcare.
The OSCE journey can be daunting, but with the help of NETA, preparation becomes more organized and effective. With knowledge, skills, and the correct support, success in the OSCE is well within reach.

I had an excellent experience with NETA. The instructors were incredibly knowledgeable, approachable, and genuinely invested in our success. Their commitment to helping every student was the best. Attending the intensive class and face-to-face training was extremely helpful in preparing for and passing the OSCE. With the support of the trainers, I gradually developed greater confidence in facing the examination, becoming more familiar with the practical skills and assessment expectations. Proper guidance is essential, and that is exactly what College of NETA provided. I encourage future candidates to believe in themselves. While NETA offers guidance, your learning depends on your own commitment. Hands-on practice and observing the approaches of your classmates can provide valuable insights. Everyone has their own study methods-yours may differ from mine-but the important thing is to stay focused on your goal and trust in your abilities. In time, your efforts will pay of.
