This qualification is developed to equip health workers with the necessary knowledge and skills to administer medications to people and monitor them, as per the delegation from a relevant health professional, in accordance with legislation and the employing organisation’s medication and delegation policies and practice.
Upon successful completion of the HLTHPS007 - Administer and monitor medications course, participants will receive a nationally recognised certificate. This certificate is issued in compliance with the requirements of the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and demonstrates skills and knowledge required to administer medications.
Once this unit is completed, the certification has no expiration date. It serves as evidence that the individual has completed the training and assessment requirements of the unit. Ongoing requirements to demonstrate competency in drug calculations may apply, and people should refer to relevant state/territory regulatory requirements.
The course is delivered online in one (1) day for 8 hours for the theoretical component and three (3) days or 24 hours for the work placement. The work placement is conducted in a residential aged care facility or similar setting to ensure hands-on experience.
